Walter McCarthy Collection: Ledyard Pfund’s 1906/1907 Renault “Vanderbilt Racer”
Another significant car at the 1988 Vanderbilt Cup Celebration was the 1906/1907 Renault "Vanderbilt Racer" owned by Ledyard Pfund of New Jersey. As noted in a 2007 Businessweek article "The World's First Production Supercar?":

Tom commented: "Does anyone actually have any interior shots of the L.I. Auto museum? I have never had the chance to visit when it was open and I have not ever seen any interior shots. In a VanderbiltCupRaces.com exclusive, this three-minute film documents the Third Annual Bridgehampton Races held on June 9,1951. This rare 16-mm film was provided by Walter McCarthy and the Long Island Old Car Club and has not been shown in over 25 years.

The Vanderbilt Cup: Up-Close on Long Island in 2002
In June 2002, the Smithsonian Institute loaned the Vanderbilt Cup for a Stony Brook exhibit The Crowd Goes Wild! Spectator Sports on Long Island- the last time this historic trophy was on Long Island. In addition to the cup, the exhibit featured Walter McCarthy's 1908 Simplex. Accordingly, Walter was able to get up-close and personal with the Cup and has provided these exclusive photos for VanderbiltCupRaces.com .
